Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 20:54:03 -0700
I posted the following obituary to the Allegany Co., NY Obituary board and
am sending it to the list for anyone who is interested in these families.
If anyone can claim him, please email me.
GEORGE W. FRENCH, a resident of Cuba for the past twenty years, passed away
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. JESSE LYON, Saturday night, June 1, after
an illness of several weeks, although he was confined to his bed only about
two weeks.
Mr. French was born in the town of Howard, Steuben county, August 25, 1829.
He was married, September 23, 1853, to Miss Eliza BACON, who passed away
about three years ago. To this union two children were born -- Mrs. GEORGE
FARNUM, who died some five years ago, and Mrs. JESSE LYON, who tenderly
cared for her father in his last illness.
Besides his daughter, he leaves to mourn his loss one brother, SIMPSON
TRAVIS of Angelica; two grandsons, WILL and STANLEY LYON; two
granddaughters, JESSIE LYON and Mrs. FRED LINCOLN, and three
great-grandsons, besides a host of friends.
Mr. French had been a member of the Methodist church for fifty-five years.
The funeral was held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon from the home of Mr. and
Mrs. LYON. Services were conducted by the Rev. LEVERETT of Black Creek and
interment was made in the cemetery there.
