I posted the following obit to the Allegany Co., NY Obituary board and am
sending it to the list for anyone who is interested. If anyone would like
to claim him and be the "submitter", please email me.
JACOB H. WHITEMAN passed away at his home in Nile on May 12, at the ripe age
of ninety-three years. His remains were taken to Clarksville and laid to
rest there in the family lot, the Rev. RASMUSSEN of the Baptist church
conducting services.
Mr. Whiteman was born at Jasper, Steuben county, in 1826, and spent his
early life there. In 1847 he was married to Miss ANNA BARTOO of the same
place and in 1849 came to Clarksville, settling on a farm near the village.
Four children were born to them -- ELI; MARTHA, wife of A. M. HOYT, who,
with their mother, preceded him to the other shore; JESSE L. WHITEMAN of
Clarksville, and GEORGE WHITEMAN of Hayden, Col. In 1904 Mr. Whiteman was
married to Mrs. EUNICE BARTOO of Nile, and a little later they moved to
Nile, where he lived until he answered the final call. Mrs. Whiteman
survives to mourn his loss.
Mr. Whiteman was a volunteer of the Civil war, enlisting in the One Hundred
and Thirty-sixth regiment and serving until the close of the conflict.
