Hi to the COOK researchers,
You are doing a bunch of work ,and although I have probably missed a great
deal that you have posted ( Cook is NOT my name) you may already have an idea
of where they came from.
HOWEVER, I will toss this out, I do the GORTON, WOLCOTT, WOOD and a few
others who came here and bought land as early as 1790ish. And I went through
my Gorton Genealogy Book to look for Rufus or any cook family.
The reason I did this is because my GORTON's came here via Vermont and
Lebanon Springs, Stephenstown , Columbia/ Rennseleur County.
The only COOK line I found in the book was from Rhode Island and they only
made got as far as the late 1700's before they were discontinued( unusual
actually) , geographically they made it as far as East Greenwich and Saybrook
, Conn.,
and Middletown , Conn.
But there seems to be Governor Cook of RI and you might look into him as
someone correctly or incorrectly has probably done his line.
I know how tough the records are to locate in this area and I think I have
seen COOK here early on too. ( JOKE: I have decided there is a 'MORRIS TAR
PIT 'on the border of Chemung/Schuyler and Steuben and that is where all mine
and others went o file their wills and get buried)
BUT Cook is there and you just go o keep digging.
maybe you can check out the Governor.
Vanda
