I'd like to point out that it is very easy to put things out on the internet
yourself. You can simply do what I have done...which is to get free webspace
from rootsweb's freepages program. While they do put little strip ads on the
pages, there are no nasty pop-up's etc. Its really easy to get the webpage
set-up and there are good message boards and support groups to get you
underway. Here is a link to their homepage where you can request the free
space.

Once you get it, you can either just ask any local genealogy sites to add a
link to your page, or most search engines have places where you can add your
page in as a candidate to be included in their searches. In general, it
doesn't seem long for your information to magically start showing up on
various search engines (believe me...mine is now just about everywhere).
Regarding cemeteries, the only thing I can remotely consider as part of a
reluctance to include dates is that many cemeteries have stones for living
people. Having anonymous access to someone's birth date, and quite often,
mother's maiden name, father's middle name, etc is sometimes all somebody
needs to start taking over that person's identity. Fortunately, most secure
sites and credit cards have started asking for more obscure information to
prove identity, but its always something that worries me when I put data out
on my cemeteries. So far, unless I get a specific request from someone to
pull their data (which has happened), I have left it in place (since it is
visible in the cemeteries). I suspect I'll only have to get burned once to
change my mind though.
Just my two cents worth....
