Subject: [NYSTLAWR] R.A.G. Stockholm/Winthrop Residents
Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2002 14:26:10 EDT

I recently received the Civil War Pension file from the National Archives on
ancestor, Dennis Ellard (1836-1913), who was a resident of Stockholm. Dennis
served from 1861-67 in Company B, 12th Regiment, U.S. Infantry. He enlisted
at Ogdensburg. After the war, Dennis returned to the Stockholm/Winthrop
area, married and raised a family.

Since he received multiple injuries during his time in service, he applied
for pension benefits when those became available in the 1880s. Subsequent
changes in the laws required additional applications. To establish claims,
depositions and affidavits were obtained As a part of Dennis' file,
depositions were filed by the following residents of the Winthrop area, who
knew Dennis. In a number of cases, there are multiple depositions by the same
person over a 20-30 year time span. The depositions generally describe the
relationship between the affiant and Dennis, and how frequently they saw each
other, etc.

Anyone with an interest in any of the following persons, contact me via email
and I will be happy to provide particular details.
