Subject: [NYSUFFOL] Samuel RENDELSTEIN - need death certificate and obit if possible
Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:35:40 -0400
Hi All,
I'm very new to this list, and I could sure use some help here. Due
to physical problems, I am housebound and have to rely on email and
snail mail to get most of my non-online research.
My father's grandfather was a "much married man" according to family
lore. Thus far I have found indications that he had as few as three
and possibly more wives. His oldest child was born in 1869 and the
youngest was born in 1906.
Child #3 was Samuel/Sendor RENDELSTEIN. I believe that he was born
about 1875, in Kozova, Galicia (now part of Ukraine). I have a
photograph of his tombstone, which helps to verify his paternal line,
but I need some help with his MOTHER. I need to know her name. So
far I have had NO luck in this area. I don't even know if
Samuel/Sendor had any children.
I was told that he probably owned and/or operated a grocery store in
or near Islip. He was married to a woman named Ida.
I need the name of this man's mother, which I hope will be found on
his death certificate. Since his wife, Ida, was alive at the time of
his death, I'm hoping that it was she who gave the information to the
authorities, and that she gave the name of his mother. I'm also
hoping that if he had an obit, it would mention his children (if any).
He died May 28, 1938 at Islip, NY.
His death certificate number is #33014.
Here are my questions:
1. Where should I write to obtain a copy of his death certificate?
How much will it cost? Can I do this in Suffolk County, or
must I write to Albany?
2. Is/Was there a local newspaper in the Islip area in 1938 that
might have an obituary for him? If so, please give me its
name and address so that I may write to them OR if anyone is
going to the local library would they please look up the obit
and post me with its contents.
This man was the "black sheep" of the family, and no one alive today
can give me any information about him and his family.
Thank you, in advance, for any and all assistance you might render.
