Thanks for the info on Suffolk County. It's going to take a few days to absorb it all. I'm happy to know I had the correct county. Now I just wish I could find some of the people I swear lived there or nearby in the early years of this century.
STIPP, HOLLIGER, SOMAINE, SELLER, MEICHNER, WOLF, HICKS, SCHAFER, PFEIFER, WACHTER, METZGER, ZUPP, KOCH, BROOKER, BEAVER, SCHMIDTNER, LAICHINGER. All appear in a scrapbook I have with pictures from the late years of the 1800s to the early 1930s.
I've gathered that this was an area where German immigrants felt welcome. Is this correct? My father and his siblings came here from Scranton with their mother about 1903 or 04, but I don't know how long they stayed, maybe 10 years or so. His mother was Margaret Stipp Beaver. I'd love to find out more.
Barbara, from Maryland
