Subject: [NYSUFFOL] 46 Copies of 1999 Survey Have Been Ordered
Date: Thu, 30 Dec 1999 12:01:11 EST
Dear Suffolk-Rootsers, etc.,
Thus far, 2 Suffolk-Rootsers (and 44 others) have requested a copy of the
1999 Long Island Population Survey Report to be mailed to them and their
names/mailing addresses have been bundled and forwarded on to KeySpan for
mailing. The first bundle of 27 names was e-Mailed to KeySpan on December
16, the second bundle of 8 names was e-Mailed to KeySpan on December 27 and
the third bundle of 11 names (2 Suffolk-Rootsers + 9 others) was e-Mailed
earlier today.
If you believe that you are one of those 11 in bundle 3, but have not
received a confirming e-Mail from the undersigned (sent a bit earlier this
morning), then please re-send your request to me, marked "second request".
Otherwise, just follow the instructions in today's e-Mail sent to all those
in bundle 3 whose request was already received.
For all those inquiring minds: 2 of the 11 in bundle 3 were Suffolk-Rootsers
and of those 2, 1 was female and 1 male. The geographic running total is 1
from Ohio and 1 with an APO mailing address.
On December 29, I sent the following e-Mail to the Suffolk-Rooters list:
This is a general announcement to the Suffolk-Rootsers list offering a hard
copy of the 1999 Long Island Population Survey report on a first-come,
first-serve basis. There is no cost to you to receive a copy of this report.
Ordering instructions can be found later in this e-Mail.
This offer was transmitted to the "" on December 15
and repeated on December 16 and again on December 27. While many people are
members of both the "" and
"", some are not, and I am now making the offer
available to those who are only on the "" list.
The 1998 edition is still available at the Suffolk Library web site. I don't
know when they will update to the 1999 edition.
My contact at KeySpan (successor to MarketSpan that was the successor to
LILCO) has made available a limited number of copies of the 1999 Long Island
Annual Population Survey. (The report is published by LIPA, but is written
by KeySpan.)
The heart of this 40-page report are maps of each of the 13 towns (3 in
Nassau, 10 in Suffolk), showing the true borders of all villages and hamlets
(not the postal zone borders) in each town. The facing pages list which
communities are villages or hamlets and their populations. (You'll find
villages and hamlets that you never knew existed because they are in some
other community-named postal zone.)
I consider this the best resource available in understanding the geography
and governmental organization of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
If you would like to receive a hard copy, please e-Mail me your mailing
address using the following order or format:
At Subject Line:
Request Copy of 1999 LI Population Survey
In Body of e-Mail:
Your Name (first name first, family name second)
Street Address
Postal City, State, ZIP Code
Skip a line and then type the word "SUFFOLK" if you are a member of ONLY the
"" list and NOT also a member of the
"" list. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO INSURE THAT I DO NOT
CONFUSE WHICH LIST(S) A PERSON MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH.
If by some rare chance you wish to include a message to me, skip 3 lines
after your name & address and then begin typing.
I will collect all requests and bundle them for forwarding to my contact at
KeySpan.
I will notify the list when all copies have been spoken for and then again
when KeySpan notifies me that all requests have been fulfilled (this may take
2 or 3 weeks). If at that time you have not received your requested copy,
then e-Mail me and I'll check into it. Otherwise, let patience be your guide.
Regards,
Walter Greenspan
