Kevin-
The Jonathan Mills about whom you inquired was my g-g-g-g-great grandfather.
I have a transcript of the Mills family burial ground at Mills Pond. Neither
the New Mill Pond nor the Miller's Pond which you found in the atlas are
Mills Pond- that is further to the east, between St. James and Stony Brook,
about half a mile from the Smithtown/Brookhaven townline. If you use one of
the search engines' map program and type in "Mills Pond Road, St. James NY
11780" you can see where it is located. The pond, Jonathan's homestead, and
the oldtime hamlet of Mills Pond were at the north end of the road, where it
joins North Country Road (Rt. 25A).
The address of the Smithtown Historical Society is 5 North Country Road,
Smithtown NY 11787, tel. no. 631 265-6768, website
