Surname: Douglas
-------------------------
My great great grandfather was also from Scotland. My great grandfather,
Robert was born in Brooklyn. He is listed in the 1892 Brooklyn business
directory as a carpenter. His brother Joseph moved to Miami. My great grandfather's
address in 1892 was the intersection of Essex and Fulton Streets, which
today is Jamaica, Queens. He was married to Mary Douglass, Douglass with
two S's, who was born in Ireland. My grandfather, their son Robert, was
born on Bergen Street, Brooklyn. This Robert served in the Spanish American
War and after the war lived in Michigan and Brooklyn, moving back and forth
several times . Mary Douglass and Robert, Jr. are buried in Holy Cross
cemetery in Brooklyn. Robert Douglas, Sr is buried in Nassau Knolls, Port
Washington, with another son William. The man who now lives where William
lived, knew him. He says that this Douglas family was composed of carpenters,
plasterers, etc and built houses. My present family is very large, over
100 people all descended from Robert Douglas,Jr. What originally caught
my eye is your last name, my great grandfather on my mother's side was
named Farnesworth. Any thing here ring a bell? Both our family's worked
construction jobs.
