Hi:

My "feature" ancester for this month's rollcall is my Long Island
gateway ancestor: Morris Wells Hallock, born Feb 09, 1858, in
Mattituck, Southold to John Kasar and Mary Jane (Aldrich) Hallock.
Mary Jane died soon after he was born and he was raised by his father
and step-mother, Joanna Downs.

He came to Kansas in the 1880's with $1,000 in a moneybelt under his
shirt and a satchel to claim a homestead under the Homestead Act. He
left Long Island after 7 generations of ancestors had lived on Long
Island reportedly because of his health - he being subject to the
humid weather of the coast while living on Long Island.

His identified Long Island ancestors so far, with a couple of
ancestral lines yet to break-through, include:

Aldrich, Betts, Brown, Budd, Cady, Chamberlain, Comstock, maybe
Cooper, Corwin, Elderkin, Glover, Hallock, Horton, Howell, Keyser,
King, Moore, Osman, Owen, Paine, Parsons, Purrier, Sandiforth,
Scudder, Shatswell, Sherrill, Swezey, Tuthill, Vail, Wells, and
Youngs.

I have web pages on each of these ancestral lines at my web page:

There are over 1,000 descendants of Morris Wells Hallock living today
and I am related to several million Americans who have Long Island
roots.
