Subject: [NYSUFFOL] Roll Call- Too Many Sarahs and Too Many Fithians
Date: Wed, 04 Oct 2000 15:28:53 -0700

The Suffolk County Fithians seem to have had a thing about Sarahs in the
late seventeenth century. Samuel Fithian, son of William Fithian might have
married two Sarahs while his nephew Jonathan Fithian, son of Enoch, married
another. Moreover there are three candidates for these Sarahs. Peter
Norris' will indicates that his daughter Sarah married a Fithian and had
several children. Will indications also have Sarah Burnet, daughter of
Thomas Burnet's son Lot also marrying a Fithian. Additionally a Sarah Moore
is said to have married a Fithian though I have not seen summaries of the
documentation.

Three Sarahs and three Fithian marriages at about the same time would seem a
good match except that none of the Fithians has been named with specific
Sarahs. Children attributed to Sarah Norris and Samuel Fithian make it
likely that Sarah Norris was Samuel's first wife. The other two Sarahs
would have been married to Samuel or Jonathan Fithian at about the same
time. Sarah Burnet would have been the first cousin of Jonathan Burnet but
that would not have mattered much then.

Has anyone ever sorted this out. All three Sarahs have at one time or
another been attributed to Jonathan.
