Congratulations.. it's always fun exploring a new line. I have some
comments, but possibly more questions that answers.. <g>
Jacobus has one mistake in his presentation. The wife of Henry-1
Pierson is unknown, NOT Mary Cooper. This was proven by Thomas Cooper
III in a presentation in: TAG 64:193-202, 1989 - "The
Cooper-Pierson-Griggs Connection", (The American Genealogist).
Henry Pierson was called "my sonne" and a legacy was left to Henry
Piersons children in John Cooper's will and this led researchers
astray for over a century, as they assumed he meant by these
references to mean Henry had married the one eligible daughter of John
Cooper not otherwise accounted for: Mary (in passenger list) - which
matched the known first name of Henry Pierson's wife.
Henry-1 Pierson's baptism record was found in Olney, Buckingham,
England, dated Dec 10, 1615, son of William and Wibroe (Griggs)
Pierson, whose marriage record was found by Mr. Cooper in Olney,
Buckingham, England on Jul 25, 1609.
The "smoking gun" that this is the same man comes from a deed dated 12
May, 1662 and signed by Henry Pierson and John Cooper, Jr. The deed
was written at Southampton, Long Island, but is now at the
Staffordshire County Record Office, Stafford, England - apparently
because it involved English land. In this deed, Henry Pierson
described himself as "formerly of Olney in the Countie of Buckingham
in old England sonne of William Pierson late of the same town deceased
and now of Southampton upon Long Iland in New England gent: An John
Cooper of the same towne of Southampton upon Long Iland aforesaid
Brother of the said Henry Pierson by the Mothers side gent."
This, then, proves that Henry-1 Pierson was John-1 Cooper's step-son
and not his son-in-law, as was supposed when Jacobus prepared his 1969
article.
John Cooper did have a daughter Mary, (in passenger list) who has no
further record in Southampton, but Henry did not marry her. His wife
is an unknown woman, who married, second, Seth Fletcher, on Jun 02,
1681.
The marriage record of John Cooper and "wybrough Pearson" was found in
the Bishop's transcripts for Olney, having taken place "xviijth of
october 1618."
>His children are listed.. as
One question I have about the children of Joshua is: Where does the
Sarah Barnes who married John Salmon Aug 23, 1683 (STR) fit into the
Barnes picture? Her name, and marriage date come from: Lucy Dubois
Ackerly, Southold Town Records - Libers D & E, Extracts w Commentary,
(Long Island Source Records, pp 154-180, Hoff, GPC, 1987), 158,
08/23/1683. She could "barely" fit to be a granddaughter, but would
more likely be a daughter, it would seem, to have married by 1683.
Torrey gives her year of birth as 1655, ruling her out as a grandchild
(born too early), but I don't know where that date of birth comes
from. Is this Sarah perhaps from a Connecticut Barnes family??

Perhaps Ned Smith can help with this one. Humphrey referred, in his
1722 will to: " I leave to my wife's son, Benjamin Smith, #3."

I don't know if I understand the chart above. Thomas Cooper III, in
his 1989 TAG article presented a workup on a Griggs family that
accompanied the Coopers to England on the Hopewell, but could not
identify the connection of John Cooper's wife, Wibrow Griggs, to that
family. As far as I know, her parents are unknown. Her marriages
above. There was no Guillmus. Henry-1, American immigrant, was son of
William, first husband of Wibrow Griggs.

Jacobus says he could find no evidence she was his daughter.
