Dear Kathy,

My ancestors were the Downs's who settled Southold, Mattituck and Riverhead
around 1700. A lot of them married into the Reeve and Tuthill families. If
you have any Downs's in your files, I'd be glad to know about it.

Incidentally, there is a book The Downs Family of Long Island by Arthur
Channing Downs which contains a lot of information about the early families,
since the Downs' married so many of them. It's a photocopy of a photocopy,
and I don't think the original manuscript was ever typeset. If you'd like a
copy, send me your address and I'll mail it to you.
