Subject: [NYSUFFOL] 42 Copies of 2000 Survey Have Been Ordered
Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 16:58:16 EST
As of earlier this afternoon (Wednesday, February 21) afternoon, 42 copies of
the 2000 Long Island Population Survey have been ordered as an additional 10
copies were ordered and the names/mailing addresses of these 10 people have
been bundled (bundle 3) and forwarded on to KeySpan for mailing. Bundle 1
included 18 and bundle 2 included 14 names/addresses. (I happy to report
that I have been notified by some people who were in bundle 1 and bundle 2
that they have already received their copy.)
If you believe that you are one of those 10 people in bundle 3, but have not
received a confirming eMail from the undersigned (the latest confirming eMail
was sent a bit earlier this afternoon to everyone in bundle 3), then please
re-send your request to me, marked "second request". Otherwise, just follow
the instructions in the confirming eMail sent to all those in bundle 3 whose
request was already received.
For all those inquiring minds: 7 in bundle 3 were female, 3 were male;
total-to-date now 29 female and 13 male. The geographic running total is 10
New Yorkers, 30 from other parts of the U.S., 1 from Canada and 1 from
Australia. There were 5 orders from Florida, 4 from California, 3 from
Texas, 2 each from Alaska, New Jersey and Nevada and 1 each from 12 other
states and a province (Ontario, Canada). In addition, there was a request
from Alstonvile, NSW, Australia, making for a new record in distance,
replacing Hawaii as the furthest place from Long Island to request a copy.
(The orders -- there were 2 -- from Hawaii were part of the list for the 1998
Survey.)
On January 29, February 6 and again on February 13, I sent an eMail, titled,
"2000 LI Pop Survey Report Now Available" to the LI-Rooters, Long
Island-Rootsers, Nassau-Rootsers and Suffolk-Rootsers lists.
For those who may have not seen this eMail and/or wish to order a copy of the
2000 LI Population Survey, I'm repeating the complete eMail after my name.
Regards,
Walter Greenspan
This is a general announcement to the LI-Rooters, Long Island-Rootsers,
Nassau-Rootsers and Suffolk-Rootsers lists offering a hard copy of the 2000
Long Island Population Survey report on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There is no cost to you to receive a copy of this report. Ordering
instructions can be found later in this eMail. (The 2 individuals that
ordered after all copies had been reserved last year have been notified.
They were promised to be placed first in line if they still wanted a copy of
this report.)
The 2000 edition is available at LIPA's web site (along with the 1998 and
1999 edition): www.lipower.org.
My contact at KeySpan (successor to MarketSpan that was the successor to
LILCO) has made available a limited number of copies of the 2000 Long Island
Annual Population Survey. (The report is published by LIPA, but is written
by KeySpan.)
The heart of this 40-page report are maps of each of the 13 towns (3 in
Nassau, 10 in Suffolk), showing the true borders of all villages and hamlets
(not the postal zone borders) in each town. The facing pages list which
communities are villages or hamlets and their populations. (You'll find
villages and hamlets that you never knew existed because they are in some
other community-named postal zone.)
I consider this the best resource available in understanding the geography
and governmental organization of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
I will give priority to those Rooters or Rootsers that did not receive a hard
copy of the 1998 or 1999 editions that were offered the last two years.
(Yes, I saved the list of names who ordered and received the 1998 and 1999
editions.)
If you would like to receive a hard copy, please eMail me your mailing
address using the following order or format:
At Subject Line:
Request Copy of 2000 LI Population Survey
In Body of eMail:
1. The name of the list (i.e., LI-Rooters, LI-Rootsers, Nassau-Rootsers or
Suffolk-Rooters) that you are on;
2. Your Name (first name first, family name second);
3. Street Address; and,
4. Postal City, State, ZIP Code
If by some rare chance you wish to include a message to me, skip 3 lines
after your name & address and then begin typing.
I will collect all requests and bundle them for forwarding to my contact at
KeySpan. Thus, only KeySpan and myself will have your mailing address.
I will notify the lists when all copies have been spoken for and then again
when KeySpan notifies me that all requests have been fulfilled (this may take
2 or 3 weeks). If at that time you have not received your requested copy,
then eMail me and I'll check into it. Otherwise, let patience be your guide.
