The ancestry of Jehiel Smith is given in Herbert F. Seversmith's "Colonial
Families of Long Island, New York, and Connecticut" [pages 31-45]. It is
available on film at Family history Centers. Jehiel was the son of Samuel
and Mary (Corey) Smith of Huntington. Samuel was the son of Nicholas and
Mary (Tibbals) Smith/Seversmith of Milford CT and Huntington NY. Nicholas
was originally a Dutchman named Claes Severtz Smit whose name was anglicized
when he settled in New England.

Jehiel's daughter Hepzibah was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in
Huntington.

Seversmith's book shows her marriage to William Smith of NYC, but
unfortunately doesn't have any info on his background.
