Hi,
The Bull monument is cast of bronze and sits atop a large block [?granite or
cement] Obadiah Smith was Richards son, for whom Richard buuilt a house on
St Johnsland Road on the way to Kings Park. Richard Smith was a friend of
Lion Gardiner when they both lived in East Hampton. When Chief Wyandanch's
daughter was kidnapped on her wedding day, Lion helped get her back from the
Narragansets. For this Wyandanch gave Lion the area of Smithtown, who, in
turn gave it to Richard Smythe. The legend says the Indians told Richard he
could have all the land he could encircle in one day. He stopped for lunch
at butter and cheese hollow in Winnecomac, now known as Comac.

one of the roads dividing Smithtown from Huntington, is named Bread and
Cheese Hollow Road. That's where he supposedly stopped for lunch and what he
ate.
