If there are directories, where would I locate them? Library, Historical
Society????

Hi Aurelia,
The Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead has Long Island
directories for the years 1889 thru 1897.
The first half of these books is just like the "Yellow Pages" of today -
just for the city of Brooklyn. The people of Bklyn are organized
alphabetically by occupation - agents, butchers, cigar stores, grocers, etc.
The second half of these books is the rest of Long Island - Kings County
(excluding Bklyn), Queens (which included present day Nassau County) &
Suffolk counties. It is organized alphabetically by village/hamlet -
Amityville, College Point, Flatbush, Greenpoint, Orient, Riverhead, Yaphank,
etc. All 3 counties combined together.
It has been awhile since I have looked at these books, but I believe
Greenlawn was listed.
Good luck in your search,
Kathy
