Wilma:
I know nothing about the people involved, but be careful of your places.
This sounds a bit like some of the stuff from "Ancestral File."
There was no Southampton in 1630. It & Southold, the two oldest English
Towns in New York State, were founded 1640. The marriage of Rev. John Cooper
to Ann Cooper [is that her maiden name ??] might have taken place in either
England or New England. Ditto the 1638 birth of their daughter Sarah.
Neither of these events could have taken place in a community yet to be
established or settled by Europeans.
Your people & dates might be OK; but you need to check the place for at
least these two events.
The LDS "Ancestral File" is notoriously awful when it comes to geography.
Actually, Rev. Cooper couldn't have died in "Southampton, Suffolk, Long
Island, New York" in 1662 either, since there was no Suffolk County until
1683 nor any New York until 1664. That might be "picky, picky" but it shows
the errors of reading today's geography back to the time of the event as
done so frequently by "Ancestral File." Trying to find records in places
that didn't exist at the time can often send the researcher on a wild-goose
chase.
"Ancestral File" often calls Hempstead and Oyster Bay "Nassau, Long Island,
New York" for events in the 1600's, 1770's, and 1800's. Since there was no
Nassau County until 1899, the researcher just using "Ancestral File" would
have no idea that he/she needed to use Queens County wills & probates, land
records, etc. to find the people mentioned. Nassau County records would not
go back behind 1899.
