If Ephraim Brown was the son of Silvanus, as you say, then most likely
he was in Aquebogue, the traditional residence of the Silvanus Browns.
That was Southold Town up to 1792, Riverhead Town thereafter. I suppose
his genealogy would be Richard1->William2-> Silvanus3->Ephraim4. Who
was his wife?
The 1776 census enumerates a Sylvanus in Southold with 4 males (3 under
16) and 4 females; no Ephraim household in Suffolk County in that
census.
The August 1778 census for Aquebogue District of Southold Town has
Ephraim with a household of 7 and Silvanus with a household of 9.
There was no Ephraim in Southold in the 1790 census but there was one in
Brookhaven. Southold had Silvenus Brown with one male adult and 4
females, and Silvenus, Senr (Ephraim's brother?), with 3 males 16 and
over, 2 under 16 and 1 female. At age 70+ Ephraim could be living with
a son or brother.
Ephraim is not included in the Sept. 1778 oath of allegiance to the
crown but a Sylvanus, age 41, occupation cordwainer, is. There are also
3 William Browns (see below): William Brown, 21, Cordwainer;
William Brown, 42, Cooper; and William Brown, 24, Farmer. William the
cooper was enumerated next after Sylvanus.
Salmon Record has Ephraim Brown froze, 16 Feb. 1793; also William Brown,
d. 24 Apr. 1783.
Records of the Aquebogue-Mattituck Parishes have a William Brown
marrying Margaret Munrow, 30 Apr. 1767, and Margaret, widow of William,
son of Ephraim, d. 11 Dec. 1786.
Hope you find something useful here. How did you derive a birthdate of
1719 for Ephraim?
