Subject: [NYSUF] FINDING RECORDS IN SUFFOLK/SOUTHOLD

Could some kind soul give me some clues on how to find info on a person in
1727 Southhold.

I am trying to find any info on Charles Hole b c 1700. Here is the only
proof I have he was in Southold:

'Abstracts of Unrecorded Wills, Vol XI, Prior to 1790', pages 39-40: 'In
the name of God, Amen. February 8, 1727/8. I, HANNAH KNOWLING, of Shelter
Island, ...... I make Charles HOLE, of Southold, and my daughter, Mary
Merrow, executors.' (One witness was Henry Merrow) Left a grandson John
Merrow; dau. Hannah Hopkins; grandsons William Hopkins and Cornelius Paine;
son-in-law John Par and his dau. Mary; my son Elisha Par.

I believe Charles migrated to NJ c 1737- around the same time as Badgleys
(sp) and WILCOCKSIE families. Charles marr. Sarah (SMITH??). He was a
school teachers and witnessed many wills in NJ, and he died in Eliz., Essex
Co. 1749. I have searched for him in the HOWELL family but cannot find a
Chas. in the proper time frame. Also tried the HOHL/HULL line, with no
luck.

I have to do any searching by mail or on-line, so any help appreciated.

Diane
