Is anyone familiar with the Cheshire Family?

I am looking for Jeremiah Cheshire.

Jeremiah Cheshire who married March 04, 1877, in East Northport,
Marietta Wood. Source: Barber, Gertrude A, Marriages Taken from Suffolk
County New York Newspapers,(1950).

I can not find Jeremiah Cheshire in any census, anywhere. Did he use
another name? He must have been alive in 1886 when named on family
papers.

I know there was an elderly Jeremiah Cheshire (died abt. 1872) in
Huntington married to a Deborah but this Jeremiah Cheshire could be born
about 1828-1835. Anyone got a clue or advice please? Your help would
be appreciated.
