I am trying to figure out the early history of BOTH my husband and step-father's Southampton roots. Both famillies have the surname of Bishop and family origin stories trace back to a common ancestor RICHARD BISHOP, born in Kent England and settled in SALEM, MA and relocated to the Hamptons of Long Island in about 1642.

I have found some conflicting data and early genealogies with children listed as being born BEFORE their fathers and marriages taking place when the parties were toddlers...those kinds of glaringly inaccurate postings.

Can anybody help me straighten these out?
Thanks
