I am currently transcribing some passages from a book titled Southold
Records and can vouch for the fact that Long Island was Long Island in 1665,
at least. I haven't checked the entire book, but the passage that had this
reference related to the town of "East Rideing of Yorkshir on Long Island."

This would fit in with the info about the 1693 renaming provided by
Russell.
