It seems as though most early settlers with the surname White lived in either Southampton or Huntington then removed elsewhere.

My White ancestors seemed to have done it the other way around. I found them in Southold in the mid 1700s , Brookaven in the late 1700s and then they moved to the western part of Southampton Town around 1800. SOme apparently moved on from there to Huntington and Brooklyn.
