Here is a bit of what I know about the Borgwardt family. I hope I can find others who are looking at the same people and who can answer some questions.

Emma Borgwardt, daughter of Carl Borgwardt and Louisa Baker, was born on 16 Feb 1883 in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY, died on 3 Jan 1974 in Lindenhurst, NY at age 90, and was buried on 7 Jan 1974 in Trinity Cemetery, Suffolk County, Amityville, NY.


Emma married Henry May in Jul 1903. Henry was born on 17 Oct 1876 in Thomashof, Baden, Germany and died on 8 Dec 1957 in Lindenhurst, NY at age 81.

Carl Borgwardt, son of Ludwig Borgwardt and Luise Bunning, was born on 13 Apr 1832 in Hanshagen, Prussia and died from 1901 to 1910 in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY at age 69.


Have a copy of 1898 Chattel Mortages for horses and cows that were purchased in Melville.


• Immigration: Ship- Teutonia, 19 Oct 1864, Left from Hamburg.

• Census: 1880, Oyster Bay Queens. Farmer with 6 children. Wife is missing.

Land: 117 Acre Farm, 1900, Huntington, Suffolk County, NY.

Carl married Louisa Baker 1881 or 1882 in Oyster Bay, Queens, NY. Louisa was born in Nov 1858 in Germany.

Children from this marriage were:


i. Emma Borgwardt (born on 16 Feb 1883 in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY -

ii. Lousia May Borgwardt was born in Nov 1893 in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY. Lousia married Astor Hero.


iii. George Borgwardt was born in Nov 1887 in NY.


iv. Herbert Borgwardt was born on 16 Jun 1898 in NY and died on 3 Mar 1994 at age 95.


v. Louis Bernard Borgwardt was born on 28 Sep 1890 and died on 6 Oct 1958 at age 68.

vi. Bertha Borgwardt was born in Apr 1886 in NY. Bertha married John Wieland.


vii. Matilda Borgwardt was born in May 1891 in Melville, Suffolk County, NY and died on 1 Dec 1891 in Melville, Suffolk County, NY.


Carl next married Sophie about 1858 in Germany. Sophie was born in 1833 in Germany and died by 1882 in Oyster Bay Queens at age 49.

Children from the first marriage were:

i. Minnie Borgwardt was born in 1863 in Pommeran, Prussia. Minnie married Augustus Williams.

ii. Charles Borgwardt was born in 1865 in Oyster Bay, Queens, NY.

iii. Henry Borgwardt was born in Nov 1871 in Oyster Bay, Queens, NY.

iv. William Borgwardt was born in 1861 in Pommeran, Prussia.

v. Frederick Borgwardt was born in 1874.

vi. George Henry? Borgwardt was born in 1876 in Oyster Bay, Queens, NY.



Louisa Baker was born in Nov 1858 in Germany.
Had 8 children with 5 living.
• Immigration: 1881 or 1882, Germany. Naturalized: 1887.

• Census: 40th Street, 1920, Lindenhurst, Babylon, Suffolk County, NY. Daughter Louise Hero lived with her and grandson Astor Hero (age 7).

• Census: 1930, 40th Street, Lindenhurst , Suffolk, NY. Lived with son Herbert, daughter in law Gladys, and g.son Henry (age 2.5).
