New Netherlands is now Manhattan. It was settled by the dutch sometime in the 1600's, I don't know too much about it as I only found my Cole fomerly Cool ancestors were part of that community. Look for the New Netherlands project for further information. That is a project translating the Dutch records into English. Some information is online. Some of those families moved up the Hudson and formed the colonies in upstate NY. My Cools, Gardinier and Dingman familes were part of the town of Kinderhook NY.
