Hi everyone,
I'm interested in searching for (and hopefully finding!) a will or
some sort of probate/administration of estate record for Thomas WILLIAMS who
died in the Candor area in February 1855.
His name wasn't listed in an on-line index of wills, so I'm hoping
that barring a will, a record of his estate was still made in the court
system.
I do not have easy access to a research library where I might be
able to check microfilms, so what do any local experts here recommend? Is
it best to write the county courthouse directly or to hire someone else to
go do the search? If I write the courthouse directly, any idea on how much
it would cost or how thorough their search might be?
If there is no such record, what are the chances of finding an
obituary? I've written the Tioga County historical society and they had no
luck finding one in their files.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is a very long-standing
brick wall and I'm hoping such a document will have just the clue I need.
Thank you.
Juliann
