First Session: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM THE ART OF FAMILY: GENEALOGICAL
ARTIFACTS
IN NEW ENGLAND AND BEYOND by D. Brenton Simons This illustrated lecture
explores the fascinating and frequently overlooked topic of "ancestral
artifacts," surveying a variety of 17th-19th century American artifact
genres
with an eye to genealogical clues and historical context.

THIS AND OTHER GENEALOGICAL FALLACIES by Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer.
Learn techniques for evaluating and verifying information you find in the
course of your research.

Third Session: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM PREPARING TO WRITE AND PUBLISH YOUR FAMILY
HISTORY by D. Brenton Simons This lecture provides insight and motivation
for
those contemplating a genealogical publication, discusses the strengths and
weaknesses of various book formats, and discusses potential pitfalls of the
book publishing process.

Our Speakers

D. Brenton Simons is executive editor of New England Ancestors, Editorial
Director of Newbury Street Press, and Assistant Executive Director of the
New
England Historic Genealogical Society. He has been on the NEHGS staff since
1993. Mr. Simons is currently CO-editing, with Peter Benes, The Art of
Family: Genealogical Artifacts in New England. Mr. Simons lectures at
National Conferences on a variety of topics.

Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer MLS, has been doing genealogical research
since 1979, and has been Vice President for Programs and Vice President for
Publicity for the Dutchess County [New York] Genealogical Society since
1988.
She is a member of several genealogical and professional societies,
including
the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speakers
Guild, the National Genealogical Society, and state and local societies.
Her
training as a librarian is useful to her not only in her day job as Special
Collections Librarian/Archivist at the Culinary Institute of America, but
also in her second profession as genealogist. Her book Long-Distance
Genealogy was published by Betterway Books in 2000.
