I am hoping that someone might have access to the Ulster County Guardian records and may be able to help me out. My g-g-grandfather, John W Rhodes, was the son of a John Smith and Phebe Rhodes and was born in the Marlboro area circa 1832. The earliest reference I can find of him is his residence with his uncle and aunt (they are unmarried siblings), Jonah and Abby Rhodes in the 1850 census. I believe that John's mother Phebe and her siblings Jonah and Abigail are all children of Jeriah and Sophronia (Ayers) Rhodes. However, I have not been able to find further proof the the familial relationship other than his death record and census records. I'm thinking that given the last name he uses, it is likely that his aunt and uncle raised him from a fairly young age and that there might be a guardianship record for him. If someone is willing to look up this information, I would be willing to do some research in-kind in the Boston area.
