Subject: [NYWestch] Westchester County Genealogical Society
Date: Tue, 7 May 2002 22:30:25 EDT
The upcoming meeting for Westchester County Genealogical Society (WCGS) is
this coming Saturday May 11, 2002 at Aldersgate Memorial United Methodist
Church, 600 Broadway (US9), Dobbs Ferry, NY (across from Mercy College).
Entrance is on the lower level adjacent to the parking lot.
The talk The Orphan Train will be given by Tom Riley. Starting in 1853, the
orphanages and foundling home in New York sent children, who were considered
orphans, to other parts of the country to relieved overcrowding conditions.
About 1/4 million children were relocated. In your family tree, do you have
a missing child or an adopted son/daughter? The story of the OrphanTrain may
provide a clue.
Meeting starts at 10am but come earlier to network.
WCGS has just released volume 4 of its journal Westchester Connections which
will be available at the May 11 and June 8 meetings. The journal contains
some fascinating articles about Westchester County, NY. Please visit our web
page for a partial list of articles in this journal as well as information
about the earlier volumes. If you are a member of WCGS, the journal is free
to all its members. If you are a member of WCGS and want it mail to your
house, please see the WCGS newsletter for information. If you are not a
member of WCGS, the journal is $8 plus $3 for postage. Drop a note/check to:
