Joan,
I really think there is a good chance that Benjamin could be a brother-in-law
to Sherwood Corley. I think I have already sent you my ideas, but I'll post
them for the group, so we can get their opinions as well.
In his will Sherwood Corley equally divides his estate among "my dear friends
and brothers that is Benjamin Bannon, Catlett Corley, John Corley, Richard
Corley, and Abner Corley." Now this could mean that Benjamin is a friend and
the others are brothers. I think Benjamin is a brother-in-law and the others
are brothers. I have come across several wills where someone named an heir as
their son or brother when it was actually a known son-in-law or
brother-in-law. Also, Benjamin is given an equal share of the estate. That
should mean indicate more than friendship alone. Lastly, as you have already
pointed out, Benjamin named a possible son Sherwood also. Although this is
certainly not conclusive, I think it may justify listing Benjamin's wife as
Delilah Corley?. Would like to hear other opinions.
Sherry
