In 1745 James VIII of Scotland was proclaimed proclaimed James III of
England
on English soil. he was known as the Old Pretender. This was probably a
major
mistake.. If the Jacobite uprising had had as its objective restoration
of
the Scottish throne alone instead of establishing a Stewart as King of a

united Scotland and England they might have succeeded, But they pushed
their
luck to the great loss of the Scottish nation.

In 1858 Robert Owen, Welsh-Scottish industrialist and utopian socialist,

founder of New Lanark community, died.

In 1967 Welsh patriots (MAC) blew up the English government offices in
Cardiff.
