HI all,
I've just been forced into a major revision of some of the data I gave in
my last posting (where I was requesting help finding a researcher in
Ireland--and my thanks to those who responded!).
According to the 1901 Canadian census, my source for the information I had
at the time, Jeremiah O'Connor was born on 12/12/1830. However, I have just
discovered his tombstone and was shocked to find his birth was actually
12/12/1813. I guess 30 and 13 sounded the same to the census taker! And
he is from Kenmare in Country Kerry. His wife, Mary Lynch was born in 1832
and died on December 12, 1900. The date for their oldest child, that I
could find, was 1875, (although I suspect their son Jeremiah was born even
earlier) so they began having children very late in life, suggesting the
possibility of another earlier marriage for one or both of them. They
migrated first to New York City in the early 1880's, staying with Mary
Lynch's relatives, before setteling in the Toronto area.
Does this revised data fit with anyone else's research?
