My gggrandfather, James O'DONNELL was born in Mullaghduff,Co. Donegal
ca.1846 and immigrated to PA in the USA probably ca. early 1860's. I
believe he was married to Brigid GALLAGHER by the time he left Ireland.
James' father was John O'Donnell and his mother was Madge Ferry. James had
a brother, Maurice, who also came to the US, participated in the Yukon Gold
Rush, and returned to buy farm land in Co. Donegal; he was still alive in
1930. Maurice's grandson, Colm P. O'Donnell, is still in Mullaghduff, and
I've spoken to him a few times on the phone. He's active in the O'Donnell
Clan Association. Colm told me that there is a priest in town who he
believes is descended from the same Ferry family, but he isn't sure.

Brigid Gallagher had sisters Annie, Mamey, Margaret and Betty, the first 2
went to the USA, the second 2 stayed in Mullaghduff:
Annie married a man named SHARKEY and resided at 124 Drapers Street,
Johnstown,PA
Mamey apparently also married a man named SHARKEY, and they lived in
Harrisburg, PA
Margaret GALLAGHER married a man named BONER
Both Margaret and Betty remained in Mullaghduff, Co. Donegal, Ireland

James enlisted in the US Calvary in Johnstown PA in 1866. Apparently Brigid
died in December, 1874 or
January, 1875 at Johnstown, PA as a result of childbirth complications.
The child also died within a week of her death. James later married Mary
Elizabeth FARRELL in Leavenworth Kansas.
