A Happy New Year 2001 to all!
My grgrgrandfather was James (William?) O'Donnell born in 1838 in County
Tipperary, Ireland. His wife, my grgrgrandmother was Catherine DONOVAN
O'Donnell born in 1840 in the Parish of Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland.
Both died in San Francisco in 1888 and 1885 respectively.
James O'Donnell's obit. references Boston Papers to copy making me wonder if
there are perhaps O'Donnell relatives in Boston that he left behind. I
believe he came to America c. 1855.
In 1864, my grgrgrandfather, James O'Donnell sailed around the Cape Horn
with my newly born uncle John Thomas O'Donnell from New York & wife
Catherine. Later this year, my great grandfather, James William O'Donnell
was born in San Francisco, California. This line continues and descends to
myself.
James O'Donnell, my grgrgrandfather had at least 2 other siblings living in
San Franciso in the mid-late 1800s: 1. Thomas J. O'Donnell (1852-1890) &
2. ? Farrell O'Donnell (a sister).
This family has had many policemen in it; one dating as recently as 1962.
Other constant occupations seem to be bookkeepers oddly enough.
I hope to find a certain link yet to other O'Donnells that may be members of
my family's line.
Thanks for all the hard work Dick!
Susanna
