Marilyn, it is very unlikely that she was with her husband in 1830, as she
had charged him with abandonment earlier in 1826 time frame. That was in
Fairfield County. We know she moved to Putman county after that.
I tried last week under her married name, "STEVENS" and she didn't appear
under that name either. Of course it is possible that she is living with a
relative or friend and there fore would not show up in the census before
1850. Her sons show up in Williams County and later in Huron, but no sign
of their mother in 1850.
Thanks for looking
Byron

Polly would have been 33 years old and separated from her husband. She was
born in NJ. She should have a number of children with her, though I am
unsure of the ages.
Thanks for checking

Hi Byron,
I checked the 1830 index at ancestry.com, but there is no Mary or Polly
SERLS or SEARLS showing up at all anywhere in Ohio as a HEAD of Household.
There were NO listings for the surname SERLS, anywhere in Ohio.
There were two SEARLS surnames in Fairfield county; Ambrose Searls and
John
Searls. There were no SEARLS in Putnam county.
There were 3 other SEARLS in Gallia, Portage and Seneca counties; Gideon,
Samuel and John.
I also tried the spelling SEARLES, and there were 3: Jonathan and Zarah
in Cuyahoga county and Philip in Geauga Coutny.
Trying a first name search there were two Polly's in Fairfield county,
Polly Allen, and Polly Resler. There were no Polly's in Putnam county.
Using Mary in a first name search, there were 47 Mary's in Fairfield
county,
but only 2 that had a surname beginning with "S". Mary Sherman and Mary
Swap. In Putnam County, there was 1 Mary----Mary Sroufe.
Since your Mary/Polly is not showing up as head of household in the index,
is it possible she was still with her husband?
Marilyn in Ohio
