I'm in the same boat - except that for years I worked closely with my mother
on a mutual search for ancestors. She died in 1995, leaving me as sole heir
to all the materials. Our local library doesn't want this type of
information; the local historical society is giving short shrift to any
suggestion of receiving the materials, even though one local
great-grandfather was mayor of
New Carlisle, OH (I live in Springfield, OH) and also one of the early Clark
county commissioners (as was his father before him).. Unfortunately, the New
Carlisle Historical Society, which allegedly would have welcomed at least
some of the paperwork and memorabilia, went out of business. People have
suggested I donate everything to the genealogical archives at Wright State.
Does anyone know whether they'd take the type of material I have - two tall
metal filing-cabinets filled with folders labeled by name and crammed with
our personal family research, which includes a lot of unhelpful (to us)
correspondence? Should I be reaching for the trash bags? (After thorough
sorting).
