Robert,
There were 152 Smith's in Trumbull Co, OH in 1900, only one Homer listed.
SMITH HOMER 56 M W OH OH TRUMBULL BAZETTA TWP 1900 Corra, wife,
43, OH; Belle, dau, 21, OH; Wade, son, 18, OH; Moses Post, f in l, 78, OH.
(not the right family as they are also found in 1910)

I searched by all Homer's and Smith's in Hubbard and Newton Twp and found no
matches.
Found here in 1910:
SMITH HOMER E 62 M W OH OH TRUMBULL NEWTON TWP 1910 with wife
Ella, 56, OH. and son James, 19, OH.

You can try a search as this site is available:
Heritage Quest Access thru Marion Co, IN Library

Click on "Databases" then "Heritage Quest" then go to "Advanced Search"
If you click on "Browse" in the upper left corner, you can do a page by page
search of these townships in case they were missed by indexing.
