Hi Edie,
Sorry, I don't find anything even similar to Croston in the whole state
of Ohio in 1830. Here's what I found in 1840, but no Charles. Do you have
other spellings of the surname?
1840 US Federal Census Index
Elias Crosston Springfield, Hamilton, Ohio
Abraham Croxton Monroesville, Jefferson, Ohio
John G Croxton Rose, Carroll, Ohio
Samuel Croxton Not Stated, Seneca, Ohio
Wm Croxton Washington, Carroll, Ohio

Hmmm, there's not enough information here. How old would Gotleib be in
1850? Do you
have his place of birth, spouse or children or parent names? Any idea
which county
to focus on? I looked at all Gottliebs in Ohio, all Collmers using
Soundex and all
Collmars using Soundex, plus Kohlmars, Kollmers, etc. but didn't see
anything. Sorry.
Best regards,
