Hello,
Just a suggestion...cemeteries are under law
required to keep excellent records of who is
buried where. I am dealing with a situation in
Ashtabula where my Quinlan side has a 6 person
plot and only 4 people are known to be buried
there. Their records showed another relative but
they had no site connected to them. They said
they would probe the ground and see if there was
a casket in the other two. They could not do it
on the day we were there. When I got home, I
wrote a formal request to them to do it and sent
death certificate copies and obits that stated
who else should have been buried there. That was
in August. No response. My next request will be
to the Health department. You might try that.
They have to keep accurate records and know EVERY
one who is buried in their cemetery and the law
is very strict about it. I would bet your
problem getting info is because they don't want
anyone to know they don't have clean, complete
records. Start mentioning that you have spoken
with the Health people and see if they change
their attitude. I need to find out more about
this myself, too. We are relatives of the dead
people and should have rights to the information
because of that. Wonder if they sold the plots
twice?

We do not have to be treated this way. One
cemetery (catholic) was very nice to work with
and the other was insulting (St Mary's in
Painesville). They hold your family information
hostage yet the government grants them the
priviledge of running a cemetery. This is a
public health issue if they don't know who is
buried there. Don't put up with it. Educate
yourself...knowledge is power...find out what
button to push. Maybe a letter to the editor on
the topic would work.
