A hearty welcome to everyone,
Today was the first day for the mailing list and we are now a group
of 25. At 10:00 p.m. PST I subscribed the mailing list to the Roots
Web archives, so all of our post will be saved for later research by
others. Sorry, that the post from earlier today will not be archived.
If you would like your earlier post to be archived , please re-post.
My name is Karen Goggin and I live in California and I am your list
host. I requested this list from Roots Web when I saw that several of
us seemed to be researching the same families, just different
generations or siblings. And we all seemed to have several other
overlapping family lines. I could see that forwarding e-mail and
the like was just too complicated. So the the OH-CLEVELAND-IRISH
list was born. The guys at Roots Web came up with this official name,
but the description will also include surrounding areas.
There are very few rules on this list.
No Flames
No SPAM
No Chain Letters
No virus warnings
These are all rules set by Roots Web
My Rules are: Share , Enjoy, Be kind to others, Don't be afraid to
post or ask questions, and have Fun.
Since we are still a fairly small group it might a good idea to post
the names of the families we are researching, dates, occupations , or
anything else that might help someone else to recognize the persons
you are looking for.
My Family of Goggins arrived in Cleveland from Ireland in 1868. John
Goggin came from Co. Kerry or Cork as a marble worker/cutter. It is
very likely he traveled with others from Ireland to Cleveland. He
married the same year to Mary O'Day. John and Mary had 14 children,
all born in Cleveland, of which I have 8 names. The names that
married into the family in Cleveland, were Mahone, Reddy, Kelly,
Hogan, Mooney, Driscoll, Robinette, McHenry, Halter, Dalton, Roberts,
Hughes,O'Callaghan, Caughlin, Mavec, etc, etc. We are a family of
Cleveland City Firemen and Policemen. We have given one of our own in
the line of duty. Most of the family is buried in Calvary Cemetery.
Oh, and I had never met any of the Cleveland family until Dec 23, 1998
and until Frank Bates on the Cuyahoga mailing list helped me out last
year at this time, it was thought that my husband was the last of the
family. Today, we now know we are part of a hugh family and I've
never been so excited.
So, I hope that everyone has lots to share and enjoys the mailing
list.
Kind Regards,
Karen Goggin
PS: Cindy, Ginny and Carole: My Hogans still live in Euclid.
