I am trying to trace the family of Colonel John Whitehead Byron of the 88th New York regiment. At the end of the Civil War he returned to Ireland briefly where he was arrested in September 1865 but eventually released and went back to the US. I believe he applied for an invalid pension in 1879 and his widow, Mary Ann, applied for a widow's pension in June 1909 from Ohio.
