Okay, here it is. I got pictures of the sword's markings and took tons of
notes about it. The initials on the sword are OIAL (Order of Irish American
?) It was made in Cincinnati, belonged to Joseph W. Freeman. The emblem is
of a dog sitting in one direction and its head turned the other. Almost
like something you'd see on the walls of Pompeii. The tip of the handle is a
man's bust, kind of like Ben Franklin. The sleeve has an emblem of a knight
in armor holding a cross and another emblem of an angel harp with a star
above it. There are Shamrocks all over the sword and the sleeve. I mean
all over it. That's why I believe it's some sort of Irish group. The
Hibernians haven't gotten back to me about it, and I don't think they will.
If anyone has any ideas, or if any of the symbols rings a bell, let me know.
