Mrs. Mary Gladieux, widow of August Gladieux, passed away at her home on East
Ninth street, Tuesday morning at two o'clock of old age and a complication of
other diseases. She had been confined to her home for some time but her
condition was not so bad as to compel her to take to her bed until a few
weeks ago.
Her maiden name was Mary Menegay. She was born in Mandure, France, in
February, 1823; she came to America when a child two years of age and settled
in Stark County, Ohio. She was married to August Gladieux at Louisville,
Ohio. She and her husband came to Missouri in 1869, settling on the farm
north of Chillicothe known as the old Gladieux farm. About thirty years ago,
they moved to Chillicothe, where she had since resided.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Peter Burgy, Joseph Gladieux
and Mrs. Joe Kline of this city and Mrs. James Gier of Oregon. One brother,
Simeon Menegay, of Ohio, survives her.
She was a member of St. Columban's Catholic church, from which place the
funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
