JACOB HARMON

Jacob Harmon was born in Montgomery County, Pa., December 31, 1791.
His father, Conrad, was a shoemaker, with whom Jacob worked for many
years,
never having but two months English schooling in his life. He came to
Wooster
township in the spring of 1818, then a single man. He was married to
Catharine Hoff,
October 10, 1820, and
has had ten children. She died April 27, 1872. When he came to the
county, he says,
there were Indians to be seen, and he remembers seeing Simon Rice,
accompanied by his
brother William, spear and kill a bear near the farm of ex-Judge John K.
McBride. He is
now eighty-seven years of age, and is a member of the Lutheran church.
