J. L. Brining
John Long Brining, 72, former city councilman and long active in Republican
circles, died last night at 8:20 at his home, 502 E. Gambier Street
following
an illness of 11 days.
He served as chairman of the first old age pension board appointed here,
and also served for a time on the county board of elections. He was a member
of the Elks and Eagles lodges here.
He was born in Exmouth, England, and came to America in 1890. In 1900 he
started the Brining news stand in W. Vine Street.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eliza Brining; three sons, William H.
and Edwin C. Brining of Mt. Vernon, and James R. Brining of Cleveland;
five daughters, Mrs. N. B. Nugent, Mrs. R. C. Householder and Mrs. C. E.
Bricker of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. W. H. Montgomery of Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs.
R. O. Guenther of Cleveland; a brother, Thomas Brining, of Mt.
Vernon, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the home, conducted
by the Rev. Alex. Hawke, and burial will be in Mound View cemetary. The
body may be seen at Miller & O'Bryan's funeral parlors.
