From my understanding you have to know the county where they applied for the
papers. I've not looked into it much but it seems like you have to know an
awful lot to narrow it down. And even then there wasn't always papers
required. Women didn't need them if they just married someone who was a
citizen, etc.

I'd be interested in hearing more specifics if you find out more.
