Hunting Up Evidence

Mr. G.P HAYWOOD, prosecuting attorney of Lafayette, Ind., arrived in the
city last night for the purpose of hunting up evidence against Rev. W.F.
PETTIT, arrested in Columbus on the charge of poisoning his wife while
living near Lafayette. Mr. HAYWOOD was at the police headquarters
today. He wants to see Detectives KRANER and James MURPHY, who made the
arrest, and if they are able to give any material aid in the prosecution
of PETTIT, he will request them to testify in the case. He went to see
Mrs. WOOLLARD this morning, with whom PETTIT boarded while here, and
will also call on Rev. Dr. BENNETT, at whose church PETTIT was a
worshipper. Mr. HAYWOOD says that PETTIT is the most unconcerned man he
ever saw, and that his assurance is great.
