The Shultz Family of Darke County, Ohio

The Biography of Susanna Shultz
Daughter of George Jacob Shultz & Elizabeth Creager
by Francis D. Motschman, Sr.

Susanna Shultz who was called Susan by her friends was born to
be a mother. She was constantly helping her mother with the children and
the
work that befell the woman of that day. It was hard work and totally
unending
and her mother was totally appreciative.
When Susanna was eighteen years old she met William Midlam and
the two fell in love with each other and a year later they
were
married. The set up their married life living on the Shultz Farm and had a
son,
Samuel, on Sun., April 21, 1839, before emigrating, along with Susanna's
mother
and father, to Ohio in 1840.
The chain of events that followed are not very clear. It seems
that their next born, a son, George, born on Sun., Septembe 26, 1841
arrived in
Darke County. Strangely, the next born, W. Harvey born on Mon., March 27,
1843
came into this world in Warren County. Possibly she had had a hard time
giving
birth to George and visited with her mother and aunt for the birth of
Harvey.
Through the coming years they had eight more children born to them in Darke
County:
Henry born Thu., August 22, 1844;
Elizabeth born Wed., September 2, 1846;
Lucina born Mon., December 25, 1848;
John Carter born Thu., October 3, 1850;
William Perry born Mon., October 25, 1852;
Frankford M. born Sat., January 27, 1855;
Milton born Thu., February 12, 1857 and
Thomas born Sun., February 21, 1860.
For other generations see the Midlam Tree.
Susanna and William lived out their lives on the farm
near Ansonia. William succumbed to heart trouble Wed., April 13, 1892 and
was
buried in the Earhart Cemetery on SR118 South of Ansonia in Darke Co.,
Ohio.
Susanna lived barely three more years, passing away Thu., January 31, 1895.
